Standing in the field

An h-index of 59 means 59 papers have each been cited at least 59 times. In otolaryngology — a specialty with a smaller literature and lower citation density than oncology or cardiology — that places the portfolio among the most-cited career records in the field, and the i10-index of 203 says the citations are spread across the body of work rather than concentrated in a handful of hits.

No global rank is claimed here, because the public ranking services disagree with each other and rebuild their tables on different rules. The underlying counts are given instead, with the profile links to check them.

One ranking that can be computed honestly is geographic: which countries the work was actually done in, counted from the affiliations on the papers.

And one comparison that is sharper still: of every paper with a Dutch affiliation in Otology & Neurotology, the field’s flagship journal, roughly one in six carries his name.
