Measured against Dutch otology

A citation count says how often work was read. This says something different: how much of a national field’s published output one person is on. For each journal below, the denominator is every paper with a Netherlands affiliation, and the numerator is those carrying his name.

Otology & Neurotology
The flagship otology journal. One in six Dutch-affiliated papers in it carries his name.

The Laryngoscope
General otolaryngology, high impact — still better than one in ten.

General ENT. The low share here is the point: this is a career spent inside otology, not across the whole specialty.

How to read this

The three shares fall from 17% to 11% to 1%, and that slope is the finding. In the journal otologists actually publish in, roughly one in six Dutch papers has his name on it. In general otolaryngology it is one in nine. In broad ENT it is one in ninety. This is a specialist record, and the numbers say so without anybody having to claim it.
